The flight from Frankfurt to Madrid was the shortest, about two hours.
I arrived in Madrid a day earlier than the rest of the group because of how the flights worked out, so I’m staying at a snazzy hotel while everyone else is working their way here.
I flew…
- from Dayton — bought two brown “Dayton, Ohio: Birthplace of Aviation” mugs for my host mom (I’m also giving her a dozen Buckeyes)
- to Washington, D.C.
- to Frankfurt — surprised they have little smoking rooms all over the place
- to Madrid — had a little trouble finding the hotel shuttle, but turns out, I was in the right place
Had a nice little conversation in (mostly) Spanish with the hotel check-in lady and exchanged some of my dollars for Euros.
I turned on the TV to find the Spanish version of “Wheel of Fortune.” Look at how their Vanna White dresses…

I wonder how grandma — who’s an avid watcher of the program — would feel about the sexin’-up of the letter lady.
Anywho, tomorrow, I’ll have to find the “Punto de Encuentro” (Meeting Point) at the airport to join the group… and we’ll head to Toledo from there.
